Work

With extensive software engineering experience across a wide range of industries, platforms, and programming languages, I am confident that I can be an asset to your project. For more information, please click here.

Play

In my spare time I enjoy tinkering with PC hardware, exploring the capabilities of Free and Open Source software (I find the current Linux ecosystem quite fascinating and have switched from Windows to Ubuntu Linux on both my home and work desktop PCs), collecting obscure jazz/rock fusion music, and making home brewed beer and mead.

Some related links:

  • The Tech Report - In-depth, unbiased reviews and news about PC hardware and software.
  • FuseNet - Fusion music forum at YahooGroups. I've been the moderator of this forum since... practically forever.
  • Urban Knaves of Grain - The local home brewer's club. An incredibly talented (and friendly!) group of technically accomplished brewers and experienced beer judges.
  • Mike's Brew Page - My home brewing page. Hasn't been updated in a while (I really should fix that...)

Personal

I have lived in the Chicago area for most of my life. My wife Eileen is a textile artist; you can visit her web site here. I also have three wonderful children (Heather, Ryan, and Kayli), and a Shiba Inu named Dezi (but getting a dog was actually my wife's idea, so I really can't take credit for that).

Miscellany

This site (along with several other sites I maintain and/or host for family and friends) is hosted on my own home-built web server. The server is powered by an AMD Athlon64 processor and various Open Source software technologies, including Ubuntu Linux, Sun VirtualBox, and Apache. Content is created on an AMD Phenom workstation running Ubuntu 64-bit Linux, using Open Source tools including Bluefish, GIMP, and the OpenOffice.org office suite.
